Acreo AB

Team
Acreo AB is a R&D company engaged in the fields of electronics and optics. As part of its business, Acreo develops, refines, and transfers research results into industrially viable products and processes. Acreo is active in the areas Interconnect and Packaging, Industrial Nano- & Microtechnology (INM), Photonics, QWIP Technologies, System Level Integration, and Business Services. The INM department has among others extensive experience in the development and processing of devices made from wide bandgap materials and is certified according to ISO 9001 quality standards.
The SiC group is part of the INM department at Acreo and has more than 13 years of experience in the design, processing, and fabrication of devices based on SiC. One of its special areas of competence is homoepitaxial CVD growth of SiC layers to supply the initial device structures or as part of the device process. 4H-SiC and 3C-SiC are the main polytypes of interest. Since 2001, the SiC-group is developing the 3C-SiC technology for MOSFET devices. This activity included the partition in the previous European project SOLSIC.
The main problem of SiC in its use on electronic devices is the structural defects which deteriorate its electronic properties. The main defects in SiC are micropipes, double position boundaries, twins, stacking faults and dislocations. Especially in the cubic polytype (3C-SiC), the stacking fault energy is negative and therefore these are the most common defects which should be eliminated. Our role in the project is the microstructural study of the material grown by the WP1 teams. This study involves their qualitative and quantitative determination, including their evolution during growth, the quality of the interface and the accurate measurement of their density in the uppermost part of the grown material.

Role in the network
Role in the network
In MANSiC, Acreo will be mainly involved in the device development and processing. It will closely interact with the other device partners to provide the testing of the material grown by the material partners with state of the art and innovative device concepts. The young researchers will be taught the way to design, process, and test SiC devices as well as how to evaluate the material quality with specially designed device structures.
